And So It Begins!

Welcome! Thank you for joining me as I try to start my own hand-crafted goods business. A few years ago, while I was pregnant with my daughter Lauren, I thought I would take up sewing again. Initially, my motivation was to craft adorable clothes for my adorable daughter. However, after several sewing classes, and a lot of experimentation, I became fascinated by sewing handbags, pouches, clutches, and other items for the home. As of today, I’ve only made her four dresses. In nearly four years. But I’ve made countless bags for my friends and family.

Many people have encouraged me to start an Etsy site and to try to sell my creations. I’ve considered it for years (no exaggeration), but there have always been reasons for not starting. So this year, I’ve decided to take the leap. I realized that I’ll never be fully and perfectly ready to jump in, so I shouldn’t procrastinate any longer. Better to start small than not at all!!

Please take a second to visit Liralalu, my etsy store. Right now, the offerings I have are pretty basic (as are the photos — working on those skills), but I have a lot of projects in the works and will be adding new items regularly. Also, I am offering customization for a small fee — if you see a shape you like but not in a pattern/color you want or if you would like other items to match something you’ve already purchased, just let me know and I’ll help you out! You can follow me on this blog, at Instagram (@liralalu) or by joining my Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2036714609881457/). I’ll be updating all platforms as I add new products to the store.

Wondering about the name Liralalu? It comes from the beginning of my name — LIs RAvert — and one of the many nicknames I have for my daughter — Lalu. (Also for you English nerds out there, lira reminds me of Lancelot’s song in “Lady of Shalott”.)

Thanks for reading!

PS: Wondering about the past posts on this blog? For a short while, I used this site as a sewing journal to document the various projects I finished. I’m loathe to delete the posts as they serve as records/reminders of past work. If you see something you like, let me know! I might be able to duplicate it (if I still have enough fabric in stock) or I could create it in different fabrics.
